Dear AUSD Families,
We want to keep you informed about the status of our school openings. We are closely monitoring the evolving weather conditions and staying up-to-date with all weather reports and alerts. We are also aware that San Diego Unified decided earlier today to close its schools tomorrow. The storm is expected to fully pass through our community in the early hours of tomorrow. We intend to have all our schools open tomorrow.
We understand that maintaining a consistent learning experience is of utmost importance. We also understand how much our families depend on our schools to provide a secure environment for their children throughout the workday. Consequently, we want to affirm our commitment to keeping our schools open as long as conditions permit.
Please rest assured that the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families are of paramount importance to us. We will continue to keep a watchful eye on the weather developments. We will make any necessary adjustments to our plans to ensure our students' best possible learning environment.
Please stay updated by checking district and school emails, social media, and school websites for further announcements. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Stay safe,
Dr. Rich Newman

Dear AUSD Families,
I am sure that each of you is diligently keeping an eye on the evolving storm situation, and I sincerely hope that you are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety and preparedness of your family.
Our schools are scheduled to remain open and operate as usual on Monday. In the event of any changes, we will communicate via email, social media, and our District app, which can be downloaded from the Apple or Google Play store.
Staff will monitor our school facilities for any potential issues arising from the storm. We are in touch with our local law enforcement and fire department to help with any coordination that may be needed.
We will continue to monitor the weather and share updates as appropriate.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rich Newman

Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you know, San Diego County may experience some intense weather this weekend because of Hurricane Hilary, which has formed in the Pacific Ocean, just south of Baja California. Although forecasters say it’s likely to be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it reaches our county, there is the potential for extreme weather, such as high winds, flash flooding, rain, and thunderstorms.
We will monitor the storm as it makes its way toward the region and will communicate with you through our regular channels if the storm impacts school facilities or operations.
We encourage you to sign up for Alert San Diego and visit the County of San Diego website to enhance your preparedness for storms and flooding. Please also download our District app, which is available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rich Newman

As our Superintendent for the day meets her AUSD staff, she was very generous in granting many requests such as a 3-day weekend, higher pay raise, working in PJs, and a taco cart and Starbucks on campuses.
